🌍 Who are we?
Operating across Europe and Asia, WeMaintain specialises in the maintenance and modernisation of lifts, escalators, automatic doors and fire safety systems, combining hands-on technical expertise with technology and data.
Our approach is built on a simple belief: maintenance can be more reliable, transparent and effective when teams have the right tools, the autonomy to make decisions and a clear understanding of what’s happening across the equipment they look after.
Since 2026, Otis has been our majority shareholder. WeMaintain continues to operate independently, retaining its own organisation and culture while benefiting from additional resources to support our growth.
Three core values guide the way we work every day:
Care (looking after others): treating colleagues and customers with respect, consideration and a genuine sense of responsibility.
Grit (determination): seeing things through with high standards, commitment and perseverance.
Uniqueness (being different): embracing different perspectives, fresh ideas and new ways of doing things.
Our ambition is to raise the standards of maintenance, alongside the people who make it happen every day.
👀 About the Role
At a glance
Salary: £62,000–£74,000 per year
Shift pattern: nights only, 4 nights on / 4 nights off, including weekends and bank holidays
Area: London
We’re looking for an experienced Night Lift Engineer to keep the lifts we look after in London safe and running overnight. Hospitals, homes, hotels and offices rely on their lifts around the clock, and when something fails at night, our customers need an engineer who can respond quickly, find the cause and put it right.
Night work isn’t about resetting a lift and moving on to the next call. It’s about understanding why something failed, deciding what can safely be fixed on the spot and making sure the day team knows exactly what’s needed next. Our digital tools give you each lift’s maintenance history and condition, which matters most at night, when you may be the only engineer on site.
🔎 What you’ll do
Respond to overnight breakdowns and callouts, assess the situation quickly and put the safety of passengers, building users and yourself first.
Find the underlying cause of faults using your technical knowledge, drawings and diagnostic tools, aiming for a first-time fix wherever it’s safe.
Carry out mechanical and electrical repairs and replace faulty components during your shift.
Run the right checks and functional tests before returning lifts to service.
Follow regulations, risk assessments, isolation procedures and safe systems of work.
Record what you found and did, the parts needed and the recommended follow-up, so the day team can pick up where you left off.
Flag recurring faults and help the team decide where further corrective work is needed.
👑 Who we’re looking for
A hands-on lift engineer who enjoys fault-finding, is comfortable working nights and handling breakdowns alone, and stays calm and methodical under time pressure.
What you’ll need
Proven hands-on experience on lifts, particularly breakdowns, callouts and mechanical and electrical fault-finding
Relevant lift engineering qualifications, training or equivalent industry experience
A sound understanding of lift mechanical and electrical systems, including reading technical drawings and schematics
A thorough understanding of safe working practices, including risk assessments and isolation procedures
The confidence to work independently at night and make sound technical decisions
Clear communication with customers and building staff on site, and with the day team at handover
A full UK driving licence
Availability to work a 4 on / 4 off night rota
What would make you stand out
An NVQ Level 3 in Lift Engineering (or equivalent)
Previous night shift or callout experience
Troubleshooting experience across different manufacturers, controllers and technologies, including traction and hydraulic lifts
Experience investigating recurring faults and their root causes
Familiarity with digital diagnostic tools and maintenance reporting systems
💡 What you should know before joining us
A rotating night rota: four night shifts followed by four days off. Your shifts move through the week, so some fall on weekends and bank holidays.
Working alone at night: buildings are often quiet and you’ll be on your own, so you need to be comfortable making safe decisions independently, with remote support.
An unpredictable workload: some nights bring back-to-back callouts, others are quieter.
Site-based, hands-on work: you’ll travel between customer sites across London, working in lift shafts and machine rooms.
This role will particularly suit someone who enjoys problem-solving under pressure and is comfortable working independently at night. It may be less suited to someone looking for daytime or Monday to Friday hours.
🎁 What we offer
A role with a direct impact on the safety and reliability of the lifts we maintain.
Genuine autonomy in how you diagnose and resolve breakdowns.
Digital tools that give you equipment history and condition in the field.
Opportunities for professional development and internal mobility.
Salary: £62,000–£74,000 per year.
A 4 on / 4 off night rota, with regular four-day breaks.
Full-time position based in London.

We carefully review every application. We’re not necessarily looking for someone who ticks every single box on a job description, and we know that the strongest career paths aren’t always the most conventional.
We also recognise that women, in particular, can be less likely to apply for a position unless they meet every listed requirement. So, if you’re reading this and thinking, “This role sounds like a great fit, but I don’t quite tick every box”, we’d genuinely encourage you to apply anyway. What matters most to us is what you can bring to the role, how you think, how you collaborate with others and the impact you could have at WeMaintain.
We value diversity in backgrounds, experiences and perspectives, and we’re committed to creating an inclusive working environment. Every application is considered fairly, regardless of background, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, beliefs or personal circumstances.
