Night Lift Engineer 4 on/4 off
Keep London's lifts safe and running overnight, taking ownership of breakdowns, fault-finding and repairs on a 4 on / 4 off night rota, with the autonomy to fix problems properly.
We usually respond within a week
🌍 Who are we?
Operating across Europe and Asia, WeMaintain specialises in the maintenance and modernisation of lifts, escalators, automatic doors and fire safety systems, combining hands-on technical expertise with technology and data.
Our approach is built on a simple belief: maintenance can be more reliable, transparent and effective when teams have the right tools, the autonomy to make decisions and a clear understanding of what's happening across the equipment they look after.
Since 2026, Otis has been our majority shareholder. WeMaintain continues to operate independently, retaining its own organisation and culture while benefiting from additional resources to support our growth.
Three core values guide the way we work every day:
Care (looking after others): treating colleagues and customers with respect, consideration and a genuine sense of responsibility.
Grit (determination): seeing things through with high standards, commitment and perseverance.
Uniqueness (being different): embracing different perspectives, fresh ideas and new ways of doing things.
Our ambition is to raise the standards of maintenance, alongside the people who make it happen every day.

👀 Why we're hiring
We're looking for an experienced Night Lift Engineer to join our Operations team in London on a 4 on / 4 off night rota, keeping the lifts we look after safe and running when most of the city is asleep.
Lifts don't stop being needed at night. Hospitals, residential buildings, hotels and offices rely on them around the clock, and when something fails overnight, our customers need an engineer who can respond quickly, find the cause and put it right.
That's where you come in.
You'll respond to breakdowns and callouts, diagnose faults and carry out repairs across customer sites in London, working closely with our day teams and Operations so nothing gets lost between shifts.
You'll work four night shifts, then have four days off, giving you regular longer breaks alongside focused stretches on site.
At WeMaintain, we believe engineers should have the tools, support and autonomy to make informed technical decisions and take real ownership of their work.
Your challenge will be to restore equipment safely and fix problems properly the first time, rather than simply getting lifts running again until the morning.
🔎 What makes this role different at WeMaintain?
Night work isn't just about resetting a lift and moving on to the next call. It's about understanding why something has failed, deciding what can be safely fixed on the spot and making sure the day team knows exactly what's needed next.
At WeMaintain, we want our engineers to use their technical expertise and judgement, while benefiting from the knowledge and support of the wider team.
In practice, you'll be responsible for:
Responding to breakdowns and callouts: attending sites overnight, assessing the situation quickly and prioritising safety for passengers, building users and yourself.
Releasing trapped passengers: carrying out passenger releases safely and calmly, following our procedures [TO CONFIRM: whether entrapments are part of the night role].
Investigating faults: using your technical knowledge, drawings and diagnostic tools to find the underlying cause, aiming for a first-time fix wherever it's safe to do so.
Carrying out repairs: undertaking mechanical and electrical repairs and replacing faulty components during your shift.
Restoring equipment safely: carrying out the appropriate checks and functional tests before returning lifts to service.
Handing over clearly: recording what you found and did, any parts needed and recommended follow-up, so the day team can pick up where you left off.
Maintaining strong safety standards: following relevant regulations, risk assessments, isolation procedures and safe systems of work, including when working at night.
Contributing to long-term equipment reliability: flagging recurring faults and helping the team understand where further corrective action is needed.
You'll work across different customer sites in London, adapting your approach to the technical requirements and condition of each installation.
We use technology and data to give our engineers better visibility of equipment condition and maintenance history, helping them make informed decisions in the field, especially at night when you may be the only engineer on site.
Beyond each callout, you'll have the opportunity to share your expertise, contribute to improvements in how we work and help strengthen the reliability of the lifts we maintain.
👑 Who we're looking for
We're looking for a hands-on Lift Engineer with solid technical experience who is comfortable working nights and enjoys fault-finding.
You should be confident handling breakdowns on your own, making safe decisions under time pressure and taking responsibility for a high-quality result.
We're particularly interested in people who are calm, methodical and determined to get to the root of technical issues rather than simply applying a short-term fix.
What you'll need
Proven hands-on experience working on lifts, particularly breakdowns, callouts and mechanical and electrical fault-finding.
Relevant lift engineering qualifications, training or equivalent demonstrable industry experience.
A sound understanding of lift mechanical and electrical systems, with the ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
Experience diagnosing faults, carrying out repairs and replacing components.
A thorough understanding of safe working practices, including risk assessments, isolation procedures and the importance of complying with applicable industry standards.
The confidence to work independently at night, organise your callouts and make sound technical decisions.
Clear communication skills, with customers and building staff on site and with the day team at handover.
A full UK driving licence.
Availability to work a 4 on / 4 off night rota.
What would make you stand out
An NVQ Level 3 in Lift Engineering (or equivalent).
Previous night shift or callout experience.
Strong troubleshooting skills across different lift manufacturers, controllers, systems or technologies, including traction and hydraulic lifts.
Experience investigating recurring faults and identifying their root causes.
Familiarity with digital diagnostic tools and maintenance reporting systems.
These are genuine advantages, but they're not all essential. If you feel the core responsibilities match your experience and you identify with the way we work, we'd really encourage you to apply.
💡 What you should know before joining us
We believe in being upfront about what a role involves. This position comes with:
A 4 on / 4 off night rota: four night shifts followed by four days off. Your shifts will move through the week, so some will fall on weekends and bank holidays.
Working at night: you'll often be on site when buildings are quiet and you'll work alone so you need to be comfortable making safe decisions independently, with remote support.
Unpredictable workload: some nights are busy with back-to-back callouts, others are quieter.
Site-based, hands-on work: you'll travel between customer sites across London, working in lift shafts and machine rooms.
In return, you'll earn £62,000–£74,000 a year, with regular blocks of four days off and real ownership of every callout, from first assessment to returning the lift to service.
This position will particularly suit someone who enjoys problem-solving under pressure and is comfortable working independently at night.
It may be less suited to someone looking for daytime or Monday to Friday hours, as the role is nights only and includes weekends.

✏️ How to apply
We carefully review every application. We're not necessarily looking for someone who ticks every single box on a job description, and we know that the strongest career paths aren't always the most conventional.
We also recognise that women, in particular, can be less likely to apply for a position unless they meet every listed requirement. So, if you're reading this and thinking, "This role sounds like a great fit, but I don't quite tick every box", we'd genuinely encourage you to apply anyway. What matters most to us is what you can bring to the role, how you think, how you collaborate with others and the impact you could have at WeMaintain.
We value diversity in backgrounds, experiences and perspectives, and we're committed to creating an inclusive working environment. Every application is considered fairly, regardless of background, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, beliefs or personal circumstances.
