Service & Callout Engineer – M/F/X
Take ownership of lift maintenance and callouts across Central London, combining hands-on engineering, technical autonomy and a proactive approach to keeping lifts safe and reliable.
We usually respond within a week
🌍 Who are we?
Operating across Europe and Asia, WeMaintain specialises in the maintenance and modernisation of lifts, escalators, automatic doors and fire safety systems, combining hands-on technical expertise with technology and data.
Our approach is built on a simple belief: maintenance can be more reliable, transparent and effective when teams have the right tools, the autonomy to make decisions and a clear understanding of what's happening across the equipment they look after.
Since 2026, Otis has been our majority shareholder. WeMaintain continues to operate independently, retaining its own organisation and culture while benefiting from additional resources to support our growth.
Three core values guide the way we work every day:
Care (looking after others): treating colleagues and customers with respect, consideration and a genuine sense of responsibility.
Grit (determination): seeing things through with high standards, commitment and perseverance.
Uniqueness (being different): embracing different perspectives, fresh ideas and new ways of doing things.
Our ambition is to raise the standards of maintenance, alongside the people who make it happen every day.
👀 Why we're hiring
We're looking for an experienced Lift Service & Callout Engineer to join our Field Operations team in Central London.
Keeping lifts running reliably is about more than responding when something goes wrong. It requires regular maintenance, a good understanding of the equipment and the ability to identify potential problems before they lead to breakdowns.
At WeMaintain, we believe engineers should have the autonomy, tools and support to take real ownership of the equipment they look after.
In this role, you'll be responsible for the ongoing maintenance and reliability of lifts across our customer sites, combining planned servicing with reactive callouts and fault-finding.
You'll work closely with our Operations and technical teams, while building relationships with the customers who rely on you to keep their buildings running smoothly.
Your challenge will be to deliver consistent, high-quality maintenance, respond effectively when problems arise and take a proactive approach to improving equipment reliability and customer satisfaction.
🔎 What makes this role different at WeMaintain?
Lift maintenance isn't just about completing scheduled visits or getting equipment running again after a breakdown.
It's about understanding the condition of the lifts you look after, recognising early signs of failure and making the right technical decisions to prevent recurring issues.
At WeMaintain, we want our engineers to spend less time dealing with unnecessary complexity and more time focusing on what they do best: maintaining equipment, solving problems and looking after customers.
In practice, you'll be responsible for:
Taking ownership of your maintenance portfolio: carrying out planned preventative maintenance across customer sites, ensuring lifts are inspected, serviced and maintained to the appropriate technical and safety standards.
Responding to breakdowns and callouts: diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults, identifying the root cause and carrying out safe, effective repairs to restore equipment to service.
Preventing recurring problems: identifying worn components, developing faults and potential reliability issues, and recommending corrective action before they lead to more significant failures.
Building strong customer relationships: communicating clearly with customers on site, explaining technical issues in an accessible way and keeping them informed about completed work and any further action required.
Making informed technical decisions: using your experience, maintenance history and available diagnostic tools to assess equipment condition and determine the most appropriate course of action.
Working closely with our technical and Operations teams: sharing information about complex or recurring faults, escalating issues when necessary and coordinating repairs requiring additional resources or expertise.
Maintaining accurate technical records: documenting maintenance visits, callouts, faults and interventions using our digital tools, ensuring information is clear and accessible to colleagues.
Contributing to continuous improvement: sharing feedback from the field with our Operations, Product and Technology teams to help improve our tools, processes and ways of working.
You'll work on lift installations across Central London, adapting your approach to the condition, technical characteristics and maintenance requirements of each installation.
Our technology and data-driven approach helps engineers access relevant information, monitor equipment history and make better-informed maintenance decisions.
Beyond your day-to-day interventions, your experience and feedback will help us continuously improve how we maintain equipment and support our customers.
👑 Who we're looking for
We're looking for an experienced Lift Engineer who takes pride in their work, enjoys solving technical problems and understands that good maintenance is about preventing issues as much as fixing them.
You'll need to be comfortable working independently, organising your workload and making technical decisions, while knowing when to involve colleagues for additional support.
We're particularly interested in people who take ownership of their portfolio, build trust with customers and look for lasting solutions rather than simply moving on to the next callout.
What you'll need
At least 3 years of fully qualified experience in lift maintenance, with solid hands-on experience servicing, diagnosing and repairing lifts.
Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills, with the ability to identify problems and carry out appropriate corrective work.
Experience managing planned maintenance activities and responding to reactive breakdowns.
A thorough understanding of lift safety requirements, safe working practices and the importance of following relevant technical standards and procedures.
The ability to work independently, organise your workload and make sound technical decisions.
Strong communication skills, with the confidence to explain technical issues clearly to customers and colleagues.
A methodical approach to problem-solving, good attention to detail and a genuine commitment to quality and safety.
A proactive mindset, with the ability to recognise potential issues and take ownership of resolving them.
What would make you stand out
Experience working in a non-OEM environment or maintaining lifts from different manufacturers.
Strong troubleshooting skills and experience resolving recurring or complex faults.
Familiarity with digital maintenance tools, diagnostic systems or connected equipment.
Experience managing customer relationships as part of a field-based engineering role.
An interest in sharing technical knowledge and contributing to improvements in maintenance practices.
These are genuine advantages, but they're not all essential. If the core responsibilities match your experience and you identify with the way we work, we'd really encourage you to apply.
💡 What you should know before joining us
We believe in being upfront about what a role involves. This position comes with:
Responsibility for ongoing lift maintenance: you'll need to balance planned servicing with reactive callouts and unexpected technical issues.
A high level of autonomy: you'll be trusted to organise your work, assess equipment condition and make appropriate technical decisions.
Direct customer interaction: you'll be representing WeMaintain on site, communicating with customers and helping them understand technical issues and required work.
Varied technical challenges: different installations and manufacturers may require different approaches, so adaptability and problem-solving are important.
A strong focus on safety and compliance: you'll need to follow the appropriate procedures and ensure equipment is safe before returning it to service.
Field-based work across Central London: you'll be travelling between customer sites and coordinating with the wider Operations team as required.
In return, you'll have the opportunity to take real ownership of your maintenance work, use your technical expertise and contribute to a business that values the knowledge and experience of its engineers.
This role will particularly suit someone who enjoys a mix of planned maintenance and fault-finding, likes building relationships with customers and takes satisfaction in keeping equipment running reliably.
It may be less suited to someone looking for a role focused exclusively on major repairs or a predominantly office-based engineering position.
